Little Valley Knife Association
Founded by Herbert Crandall
Little Valley, New York
1898-1905
At the dawning of the 20th Century, Little Valley was the foremost name in cutlery manufacturing; it’s said that a pocketknife could get twice the price by bearing this one town’s name. Taking advantage of the notoriety, as well as family (Herbert Crandall was married to Mary Theresa Case), Little Valley Knife Association was launched around 1898, contracting pocketknives, scissors, shears, and straight razors from C. Platts & Sons and Napanoch Knife Company. In 1905, Herbert Crandall and Russ Case were both courted by oil interests to Bradford, Pennsylvania, with Crandall Cutlery and W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery formed and commencing manufacturing.
